Just thought I’d fill you all in on how amazing my C.I.T’s were this summer. I had the pleasure of shaping a group of 12 young adults into future counselors and I am confident that the campers are in good hands. They completed a 3 week program over the course of July 26th- August 21st. The first week was called “Camp Start-up” and consisted of lessons like team bonding, what makes a good leader, bullying awareness, self-esteem and communication. The second week was called their “Transition” week and consisted of lessons such as bedtime routine, mediation skills, assisting missing home campers and showing initiative. The third week was called their “Shadow” week and they were placed in a cabin with the same responsibilities as a counselor. Their official camp names are Skyscraper, Shreddie, Shaq, Smurf, Winnie, Shockwave, Shure, Kowalski, Mud, Tornado, Pip and Genius.
I remember when I was an L.I.T, the Leadership coordinator and the director called me into the office. All that was going through my head was the fact that I thought I did something wrong. They sat me down and asked me what I had planned for the following week. They proceeded to ask me if I was interested in working as a counselor. Before I could process what had just happened I was holding my very first lanyard and fox40 whistle. This was one of the happiest moments of my life and the fact that I was able to give that same feeling to one of my C.I.T’s this week is unexplainable.
Camp has given me so much growing up and has made me into the person I am today, I truly hope that you have the pleasure of feeling this kind of “home”. Camp is the perfect “pick me up” on that day you never thought would come, camp is the perfect excuse to be 110% yourself, camp is the perfect reason to laugh until it hurts, camp is home. Sadly I cannot stay at camp forever but that does not mean I will ever forget all of the things that it and all of the people involved have taught me. I will forever be a camper at heart and this is not the last you’ll hear from me.
Never stop loving camp,
Marvel – Leadership Coordinator
